Eight easy steps to write an article for the children
Eight easy steps to write an article for the children
Have you thought about writing an article for the magazine for children? Maybe you have an idea, but unsure how to proceed. Here are some suggestions.
Step one. Choose a topic. It should be something that many children will be affected, but it should be something that you know or are interested in learning more. Animals, sports, celebrities, science, and how-to articles are all popular choices ..
Step two. Limiting the topic. Concentrate on one aspect of it. I wanted to write an article on birds. I had just returned from Florida, so I decided to focus on birds that I saw in one place, Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge. This was still far too large, so I honed in on how many birds eat there. The article, "Dinner at Ding Darling," was published by Children's Digest.
Step Three. Search for your article. Use the online resources and books and articles. Editors like a mix of print and Internet sources in a bibliography. Look for interesting tidbits that will appeal to children. Find facts with charm and appeal wow sucks. Children, as well as the incredible gross weight.
Step Four. Organize your search. Write down the main points you want to do, then go through the notes and put it in your profile. It should not be a formal outline. It just needs to get your thoughts in order. I love outlines. Once my profile is done, the article seems almost write itself.
Step Five. Write the article. Decide what age you are writing, then try to keep your writing at that level. Do not talk down to kids, but try to use words that child age would know and understand. Keep your sentences simple and rather short. Use short paragraphs. The children are intimidated by large blocks of type.
Step Six. Revise and edit your article. To make sure it runs smoothly, read it aloud to yourself. That will allow you to find out the rhythm and repeated words. Be very sure there are no errors in spelling or grammar.
Step Seven. The search for markets. Obtain a copy of the Children's Writer and Illustrator Market Research Online Children or publishers. Make sure your article is the right length for the right age, and on a topic the magazine uses.
Step Eight. Send your article. So get busy writing another.
Sounds easy? Try it! With a little 'work and practice, you can succeed in writing articles for children ....
