Although this may seem like a good idea in certain circumstances, when you're trying to meet people online, and form honest, real relationships with them, is the worst thing you can do.

One of the first things I advise people to do when you are setting up a profile on an online dating service is to be yourself and be honest. At some point the truth is becoming clear, then you may also be true from the beginning. In fact, it is imperative that you be honest about who you are from the beginning. Any good relationship is built on two things: trust and communication. If you're pretending to be someone you are not, you are violating both of these requirements from the outset.
