Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010 - a Herculean task for a small nation

It 'was a close call between the final of the Youth Olympic Games host contenders Singapore and Moscow. As suggested by the votes of 53 to 44. The island nation erupted in a collective delirium, although there were skeptics among the citizens. There are many factors that worked in favor of Singapore that will be further discussed.

To begin with, Singapore does not see in the running as recently as July 2007. The Prime Minister believed it was not ready to host the Games. First, the National Stadium was demolished only last year to make way for a new complex. The Singapore Sports Hub, where the stadium should be completed only in 2011.

The city-state can not have any record before hosting the largest event of the Olympics. However, it has hosted a biennial regional sporting event meet three times. So, Singapore is very experienced in planning and organizing the logistics involved. The biennial event is the peninsula south-east Asia [SEAP] Games in 1973, and its successor, the Southeast Asian [SEA] Games in 1983 and 1993.

But in true Singapore style, all from various government agencies, the various companies and people in the street gathered together. Ensuring the Youth Olympic Games come to these shores.

What worked against the benefit of Singapore? Foremost among them the emphasis on youth and efficiency. The offer includes integrated sports, youth and cultural educational programs. The official site is "young" and "vitality" printed all over. As is clear from the music and cute animated mascot olympic flame-transport.

Other factors come into play:

* Singapore's reputation for delivering results on time and beyond expectations

* Compact in Singapore is to travel between venues takes no more than 30 minutes

* The advanced physical infrastructure, ie transport and technological

Singapore * multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious background

* The much guaranteed safe and secure environment to harsh legal penalties that are in place

* English is widely spoken and understood how is business in Singapore and the official language

As such, the games participants, their families / carers, the international media and dignitaries can only minimal problems during their stay. In the cosmopolitan city that has recently been in second place, after the United States in terms of economy more competitive. That said, the slogan "Blazing the Trail" is not only suitable for Singapore. But for future Youth Olympic host cities too .......
