Honey: a great ally of the health

Honey: a great ally of the health

by Paul of the Church, Ph. D. (Naturopath)

When I heard that the bees have to visit about a million flowers to produce a pound of honey, I began experiencing a special feeling every time I use it to sweeten my tea, honey reminds me that behind every simple fact is a miracle of creation.

Honey is a food that accompanied the man throughout his evolution and has been known to make an important place in almost all traditions and cultures, the earliest references are found in Spain with paintings of some nine thousand years old where man can be seen as the syrup extracted natural holes in trees or rocks where wild bees usually install their hives.

In Egypt there are references to some six thousand years ago, in the Ebers Papyrus, the chief medical manuscript of ancient Egypt, will reveal the many uses of honey in the therapeutic process, food and mummification.

An interesting and marks the first steps of the human race long to make the most of nature is marked by the fact that the Egyptians built hives loaded onto rafts that sailed the Nile are floating downstream and when they arrived its destination, the honey produced there was used the wealth of different blooms.

Muhammad said 'Honey is a remedy for all diseases', in the Bible or Greek traditions, Roman, Indian or Arab, we always find a great respect for this food.

Medicinal Uses

We all know the value of honey and its uses to relieve respiratory disorders, an infusion of anise, thyme and eucalyptus, lemon juice and a tablespoon of raw honey, raw, often represents a significant relief for cough and sore throats.

It also acts as an antibiotic of many germs, which positions it as an excellent palliative and preventive of any respiratory tract infection in these cases, we may ingest or take a inhalations of eucalyptus or thyme infusion to which we add one or two tablespoons of honey.

To ease congestion and facilitate a good night's sleep, more than once we have used a glass of hot milk with honey, this simple recipe is very effective and we often forget its simplicity after other remedies more complex or costly not be as appropriate for overall health.

If you consume honey diluted in warm water, ninety minutes before meals, it will be a great relief for ulcers, gastritis or heartburn, this is because it significantly decreases the rate of acidity, promotes healing of the mucosa and may have any effect on Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium implicated in the development of the ulcer. This same preparation, immediately before meals, helps the digestive process in those who often have heavy and slow to process food.

Combining exercises that strengthen the muscles of the bladder with regular consumption of honey, often greatly improve urinary incontinence tends to affect older women.

In external use, honey can be used to accelerate regenerative processes of the skin and promote healing of cuts, burns, abscesses, ulcers or sores in these cases honey has antiseptic power, relieves pain and facilitates cell division promotes rapid and effective healing.

Honey has multiple actions cosmetic gels, soaps, toners, creams, etc.. In these cases we can mention the honey mask on the face or the use of one or two tablespoons of it in the water bath to alleviate the problems such as psoriasis or dermal allergies.

And although the indications of honey are many more, we will close this article promoting an almost unknown as to its medicinal uses. Usually when we have sore eyes or conjunctivitis, we use an infusion of eyebright or chamomile to relieve them-well, if this infusion we added a little honey, the results are much more promising.

Here we end and do it with the feeling of sharing another treasure of the many nature gives us to benefit fully to the health and welfare of the whole family.
